Our Natural Alternatives to Common Synthetics

Pure White Cosmetics - Our Natural Alternatives to Common Synthetics

We share our planet with well over 75,000 different chemicals and at least 5,000 of these identified harmful chemicals are used in the cosmetic industry alone. Why is this so important? Our skin absorbs up to 60% of what it comes in contact with, allowing harmful chemicals to more freely move past the outside layer of the skin. These chemicals can then circulate throughout our bodies damaging our skin and putting us at risk for developing serious health concerns.

Its important for an educated consumer to understand what elements make an effective product. All skincare products contain the functional ingredients that serve as emollients, humectants, emulsifiers, surfactants and preservatives in some combination or another in order to produce effective products.

There is no reason we need to rely on chemicals to make a product work or even to preserve it. There are hundreds of natural ingredients that outperform synthetics and generally render synthetic chemicals obsolete. We believe green beauty can be just as age-defying as conventional formulations, and we exhaustively research and formulate our products for the best results possible. Biotechnology harnesses the power of nature to create products that leave synthetics in the dust. So you don’t have to compromise to get the powerful ingredients recommended by skincare experts: ours come from plants.

PARABENS

Parabens are used as antimicrobial chemical preservatives in thousands of cosmetics, personal care products, pharmaceutical products, and food. Including parabens in a formula extends the product’s shelf life by preventing the growth of harmful microorganisms, especially molds and yeast. You’ll see them listed on ingredients labels as one of six commonly used forms: Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, p-Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, n-Butylparaben, and Benzylparaben.

OUR ALTERNATIVE: Pure White is 100% honest in what goes into our products. We use naturally derived, synthetic Ecocert approved preservatives. We feel very strongly that skincare products need to be preserved 100% effectively. So called ‘preservative-free’ products can be a health hazard.

SYNTHETIC EMOLLIENTS

An emollient has skin softening or smoothing properties. It’s an oil and water combination. Synthetic emollients are often produced at high temperatures, destroying nutrients, antioxidants and essential fatty acids, and can clog pores or cause skin irritations.

OUR ALTERNATIVE: There is a plethora of choice when it comes to using natural emollients. Natural vegetable, nut and seed oils make great emollients that lubricate and help skin remain smooth and pliable. They work very effectively to protect the skin barrier, moisturise and help replenish the skin’s natural oils.

SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES

There are over 200 synthetic fragrances used in cosmetics. There is no way to know which particular ones are in your product, since on the label it will simply say “Fragrance” or “Parfum”. The long-term effects of synthetic fragrance are unquantifiable. What we do know is that more people are experiencing allergies and sensitivities than ever before.

OUR ALTERNATIVE: None of our products contain any synthetic fragrances or perfumes. But — we know that people do enjoy using a beautifully scented product on their skin – as long as it’s natural and not harmful to health. Therefore, only use essential oils to naturally scent our range, making it suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin.

“Fragrance” and “Parfum” on our labels mean blends of essential oils which are derived from flowers, fruit, grasses, seeds, bark, wood, roots, leaves, balsam and resin. They’ve been used for thousands of years and have stood the test of time.
